Let the wood do the talking

Mitril turns reclaimed wood into a standing sculptural piece. Its long, textured form rises above a square base on slender dark supports. Two openings interrupt the column, adding glimpses of the space behind it.

We like its contrast of a simple overall shape and a richly marked surface. The brown wood brings warmth, while the irregular outline gives the piece an expressive quality that can hold attention without a bright colour.

Where we would place it

At 165 cm high, Mitril belongs on the floor. We would place it beside a low sideboard, at the edge of a generous entrance or against an otherwise quiet living-room wall. Its 30 × 30 cm overall footprint is compact, but we would leave clear space around it so the outline remains visible.

Before choosing its position, measure the room and the routes people use through it. We would favour a spot where you can see the sculpture from more than one angle, rather than tuck it tightly behind furniture.

Our styling take

For us, the strongest pairing would be a clean-lined velvet armchair, pale walls and one bold artwork. The rough texture of the wood could add an interesting contrast to smooth upholstery and restrained furniture.

In a more natural interior, we would combine it with linen, simple ceramics and warm stone. A sparse arrangement would let the surface and the two openings become the focus.

Character in the material

Mitril is made by hand from reclaimed wood. Variations in tone, shape and surface markings are part of its character, so the grain and details of individual pieces will vary from the photograph.
